At the crack of dawn, the clouds illuminated a magnificent warm light. The sweet chirping of the birds, the soft tinkling of the wind chimes and the fresh scent of the air woke up Ananya that morning. But she wasn’t too happy about it. She laid her eyes on the calendar and started counting the days again – two weeks and three days had passed by now.
She didn’t want to be the first one to
call up Rishi. After all, he hadn’t yet called her back after their last
rendezvous as he had promised. She wanted to talk to Rishi since the day they
met for the last time. She wanted to speak her heart out. She could now feel
the pangs of anxiety running down her, so after much deliberation she decided
to go for a walk.
The evening air was cold and
refreshing, and she walked rapidly to keep herself warm. While walking on the
walking track, amidst the headlights of the numerous cars that zipped by, she
spotted an almost invisible van of the ice-cream man. As she noticed the van,
she stopped by and crossed the road hastily, she thought to herself, “Today is
the perfect day to treat myself to a guava ice-cream.” She asked the ice-cream
man to give her a guava ice-cream in a chocolate dipped waffle cone, but to her
surprise he was out of her favorite flavor. Dejected by it, Ananya cursed and
ordered a butterscotch ice-cream. While finishing the last bite of the
unlikable flavored ice-cream she thought to herself, “Damn! The guava flavor is
so much better.”
“We always have choices and sometimes
it's only a choice of attitude.”
If you like somebody and vice versa,
why would you wait for that person to call or text you? Why not make the first
move and take it forward. Is the ego more important or the person? Does it even
matter, as to who called whom first?
Sometimes, we have to put in extra
efforts to make something happen rather than doing nothing about it and let it
break up even before it could start. Waiting for things to happen and pondering
about why it didn’t happen, won’t take you anywhere. Also, life is too short to
wait for things to happen instead take charge of it and make it happen.
There are many such Ananya and Rishi amongst us who are battling with the same dilemma time and again.
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have somebody special in their life. So, drop that ego, grab your phone and take it forward
from there and you might as well find out why they couldn’t call back so you
don't have to waste any more time obsessing over why they didn't reciprocate. Also, you'll be satisfied since you chose to do your part by making the choice.
“Whatever you choose, you might as well
enjoy it. After all, it was your choice.”
Many a times, something that is a
privilege for someone might turn out to be a restriction for another
person. Just as Ananya had a choice to
eat another flavored ice-cream a cancer patient might not have that choice.
She chose the butterscotch flavor, it wasn’t mandatory to have ice-cream. In
fact, she could have avoided making the choice of another flavored ice-cream
rather than showing her dislike towards it and still having it.
Well, life may not be fair but it gives us
the choice…the choice to whine or be grateful about, the choice to feel
fortunate or miserable about, why not
choose while we can?
“If you were given only one choice: To
choose or not to choose, which one you would choose?”
Very well said vidhi...the post is true and beautiful. And yes we should always move to forward to grab choice offered to us because it is not compulsory that life will give us choice always so always strive to move forward.
ReplyDeleteMr/Ms.Unknown thank you so much for the kind words. And yes, we should always make a choice that takes us forward rather than backwards.
